With many years of experience in both the hockey and business world, Mike brings a wealth of knowledge in providing the necessary resources to run a quality program. His care for young athletes inspires and provides the required components to deliver a positive training program. Mike's passion for the best program is only matched by his passion on the ice when working with the students.
Maurice (Moe) Tanel
Co-Owner and Program Director
Moe's strengths as the Program Director of Team Shutout Goalie School are drawn from many years of experience as a goalie instructor and as a police officer for the Toronto Police Service. From this wealth of experience, along with being the father of three children who participated in elite level sports, he has come to understand the importance of sports and their impact on youth.
He has been involved in goalie instructing since 1996 and has provided goalie instruction and game analysis for goalies at all levels.
As a police officer of the Toronto Police Service for 27 years, his involvement with youth in the community has given him an understanding and appreciation of the importance of positive discipline and structure in the development of a youth's character.
As a Certified Instructor with the Toronto Police College, his position as both an instructor and program developer of police training programs, has given him the proper training and experience to develop and deliver a strong program and make it understandable and achievable
He is also presently a goalie scout for the Acadie-Bathurst Titan of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
Manager of Player Development
Zac Bierk, as the Manager of Player Development, is an integral part of our Goalie Development Team that will oversee the development of our goalies within the Vision and Overview of the Team Shutout program.
Zac brings a wealth of playing and training experience to our team. He spent all 4 years of his Major Junior career with the Peterborough Petes of the Ontario Hockey League from 1993/94 to 1996/97. In the 1995/96 season, Zac led the Petes to the Memorial Cup final. The following season, Zac won the OHL goaltender of the year award, Leo Lalonde trophy as the best over-age player in the league and was named to the OHL All-Star First Team and Canadian Hockey League All-Star Second Team.
His Pro career started by being drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. His first victory came on March 30, 1998 in only his second career start, a 3-1 win in New York against the Rangers. As a member of the Phoenix Coyotes in 2003, Zac posted career bests in g.a.a. (2.17) and save percentage (9.32) and was nominated for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy. The award is given annually to the National Hockey league player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey.
Mathew (Mat) Tanel
Player and Parent Consultant
Mat brings many years of experience as both a goalie and an instructor. His greatest quality is his special talents as a mentor and teacher. Mathew's hockey career had many twists and turns, which has given him many hockey experiences that he can share with both goalie and parents.
He was drafted to the OHL in May 2000 in the 3rd round (second goalie to be selected in the draft) and played three seasons with the Plymouth Whalers and Mississauga Ice Dogs. Mat was selected to the Under 17 Hockey Team, which competed in December 2000 in the World Hockey Challenge in Truro, Nova Scotia, where he played the bronze medal game to beat Team Atlantic.
Mat has been instructing goalies since 1996 in both an instructor and head instructor capacity and completed a 4-year degree in psychology at Western University.
The Toronto Police Service currently employs him as a police officer.
